Strengthening the Foundation of Safety: My First Lifesaving & CPR Certifications in 2023
At DORY Swimming School, safety has always been at the heart of our teaching philosophy. Before guiding others in the water, I wanted to ensure that I was fully equipped with the essential skills needed to protect, respond, and care for every swimmer who steps into the pool.
In 2023, I completed my very first set of lifesaving and first aid certifications — a milestone that marked the beginning of my professional journey in aquatic safety and coaching.
These were the qualifications that built the foundation of safety at DORY Swimming School.
Lifesaving & CPR Certification (2023)
In 2023, I completed my first Life Saving CPR certification, giving me practical emergency response skills such as:
CPR for adults and children Rescue breathing techniques Identifying and responding to aquatic emergencies Staying calm and taking immediate action Understanding updated lifesaving protocols
This certification was an important first step in learning how to act quickly and confidently during emergencies.
ILS Pool Lifeguard Certification (2023)
I also earned my first International Life Saving (ILS) Pool Lifeguard qualification in 2023.
This globally recognized program taught me:
Professional pool surveillance Safe rescue and recovery methods Managing head, neck, and spinal injuries Preventing accidents through awareness and observation Effective communication with swimmers during emergencies
This certification ensured that every session I supervised was backed by internationally approved safety standards.
First Aid Level I & Level II (2023)
To strengthen my readiness to handle situations both in and out of the pool, I completed:
First Aid Level I
My Level I training included:
Basic life support Managing minor injuries First response to common incidents (burns, cuts, sprains) Assessing and stabilizing emergency scenes
First Aid Level II
I then advanced to Level II, where I learned:
Handling more serious medical emergencies Advanced bandaging and splinting Helping individuals with breathing or medical issues Managing multiple casualties until professional help arrives
These certifications formed the essential foundation of my emergency care skills.
