Suranga U. Bandara

Head Coach

Driven by a deep love for water and a passion for teaching, I founded DORY Swimming School to create a safe, supportive, and joyful space where children and adults alike can build lifelong swimming skills. With years of experience both in and out of the pool, I bring a calm and encouraging teaching style that helps swimmers grow in confidence, technique, and strength. My mission is to make quality swimming education accessible to everyone, regardless of their starting point. I believe in building trust first — because when a swimmer feels safe, progress follows naturally. Every class is a step toward empowerment, health, and happiness. Whether it's a toddler's first splash, a teenager mastering strokes, or an adult finally overcoming their fear of water — I’m here to guide every swimmer on their unique aquatic journey.

About Me

As a swim coach, I bring a calm, encouraging, and student-first approach to every lesson. My goal is not just to teach swimming — but to build confidence, discipline, and a lifelong love for the water in every student.

With experience coaching children, teens, and adults across all ability levels, I tailor each class to suit the swimmer’s pace and personality. Whether I’m working with a nervous beginner or guiding a young athlete toward competitive goals, I ensure every student feels supported, seen, and capable.

I specialize in:

  • Breaking down complex techniques into easy, fun steps

  • Building trust and comfort in the water, especially with first-time swimmers

  • Teaching all four competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly

  • Creating structured, goal-oriented lesson plans with a friendly vibe

  • Motivating swimmers through patience, praise, and personalized feedback

I believe great coaching is about connection, not just correction — and at DORY, every swimmer gets the time and care they need to thrive.
